The Art of Truthful Deception

Glen Beck’s weekend “Restoring Honor” rally is still stirring controversy —about how many people attended the event.

AP wimped out, reporting “tens of thousands.” CBS estimated 87,000 based on aerial photographs. And Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann pegged it at no less than one million.

So now zealots on both sides of the political fence are accusing the other of purposely underestimating—or overestimating—the size of the crowd.

Beck himself says he had heard estimates of 300,000 to 500,000, creating his own incontrovertible version of the truth.
