Live Tweeting has become de rigueur at most conferences, as turbo texters rush to be the first to broadcast the twiticisms of every speaker.
But lately that benign practice has taken an ugly turn as attendees have begun to use Twitter to hurl insults at speakers—or worse.
The example above is just one of many is from yesterday’s SXSW keynote. Martha Stewart got eviscerated at Design Indaba recently. And then there was the whole Sarah Silverman flame-a-thon at TED.
As far as I can tell, this new form of unsocial media doesn’t appear to have a name yet. So I’m offering up “cheep shots” as an initial salvo.
Is it getting snarky in here? Or is it just me?
