A New Spin on Paying for Content

It’s not bad enough that more than 9,000 journalists have lost their jobs so far in 2009. Now it turns out that would-be wordsmiths need to pay to play.

The current bid for an “eye-opening internship” at The Huffington Post is up to $13,000 in the annual Robert F. Kennedy Center Auction, now on CharityBuzz.

And there are still more than two weeks left in the auction.

So maybe that’s the new business model. The content is gratis. But you have to pay for the privilege of writing it.

Raises a rather eye-opening question in itself: When all press is free will we still have a free press?
