Should Obama Stop Running Against McCain?

I wonder if Barack Obama should stop trading punches with McCain and instead take sole aim at the Republican party instead.

That could vastly simplify the Democrat’s pitch to four simple words: Don’t get fooled again. (Think of how easy that would make picking a theme song for next week’s convention.)

The strategy is simple: Force on-the-fence voters to think twice before pulling the Republican lever in November. That may be a whole lot easier to do than convincing them that Obama would be a better president.

McCain has done a great job of shaking free of GWB with his “original maverick” strategy. But he can’t turn his back on being a Republican.
