Hearing composer Burt Bacharach sing “I hope I’ll never get hit in the rear again” in a GEICO ad is pretty d*mn funny.
But this morose rendition of Bacharach’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love” for Barclays’ iShares product is just plain sad.
What the world needs now is clarity… tax efficiency… and transparency? I wince even keystroking the words.
I can almost hear the fist pounding on the table at the marketing meeting: “Serious times demand serious advertising, people.”
The reality is that bad times beget bad ads. Lets all hope the economy picks up soon. And that Barclays gets back on track with the far more sharp-witted advertising that it has championed in recent years.
