The folks at Ford may finally be onto a better idea: Honesty.
The company’s CEO and another top executive took public shots at one of Ford’s own products last week, likening the doughy design of its flagship Taurus to Homer Simpson.
While that sounds like marketing suicide, it is exactly the kind of candor the carmaker needs to get people to listen to its message again.
Think of it as going into “marketing rehab.” You have to admit you have a problem before you can ever hope to get better.
Of course, the company now needs to come through with products people actually want to buy. Now that would genuinely be a “bold move.”
